A Fleeting Moment

Thru the years we have a cabinet in the bathroom where we stock seldom used items. Soaps, tissues, remedies that proved to be not so effective. One of the items often found there is a Fleet enema.

Last night we were at Krogers. I left Lee trying to pick a roast and visited the pharmacy area for some Neosporin that I use for the many nicks and scrapes I inflict on myself. I noticed they had a 4 pack of Fleet on sale at a seemingly impossible price. Being the tightwad I have become and knowing this was a regularly stocked item, I picked up a box and started back to my wife and her cart.

Somewhere around the end of the frozen foods aisle (at the front of the store) I lost control of the box and it hit the floor. It opened and two of the clear plastic bottles of liquid…complete with the bright green removable tip…began to roll. One hung a right at the first of the cold drink aisles and bumped into a mans shoe. He picked it up and handed it to me as I rounded the corner. The other took a longer and almost straight path, rolling past the closed check outs and headed to the very busy self-check bullpen…crowded with my neighbors and people who I don’t know but probably know me.

As I followed it…it rolled under one cart and just missed two others and came to a stop against the base of one of the checkout stations. Navigating my way around the carts and people in the check out line I thought about just leaving it and setting the box down somewhere, pretending it wasn’t mine.

But I was committed as several people connected me to the rolling bottle as I watched it move thru the group. As the guy in the couple next to the station where it stopped bent over and picked it up…handing it to me…I said the only think I could think of…“my wife sent me to get this.”

Not sure if I actually said that or just thought I did.
